A Nigerian lawyer has advised men on the legal steps to take if a female partner suddenly loses consciousness or d!es while visiting their homes, warning them against fleeing the scene.
In a viral video, the lawyer outlined a three-step approach: seek immediate medical attention, contact a lawyer if the woman is confirmed d+ad, and report the incident to the police with legal representation.
He explained that men should not immediately assume a woman has d+ed when she suddenly collapses, noting that certain medical conditions can cause loss of consciousness during or after sexu@l intercourse.
“You must not conclude that they are d+ad. Some women have medical conditions that make them pass out during and after sexu@l intercourse. It is called coital syncope or, more precisely, post-coital vasovagal syncope. Medical practitioners will confirm whether they are d+ad,” he said.
The lawyer advised men to take the woman to a hospital immediately for medical assessment and to determine whether she could be revived.
He added that if medical personnel confirmed her d+ath, the man should contact a qualified lawyer before making further statements and subsequently report the incident to the police.
“Go and report yourself to the police station immediately. Don't run away. Go to the police station immediately. Go and make a statement. Once you do that, police officers will commence their own investigation,” he said.
According to him, the fact that a woman d!ed in a man's home does not automatically establish his guilt, as investigators must determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He explained that an autopsy could be conducted to establish the cause of d+ath, after which the findings would help determine whether there was evidence of mu#der or any other criminal liability.
The lawyer, however, warned that a man involved in such a case could be held in custody while the police investigate the circumstances of the woman's d+ath.
